COUNTY RECREATIONAL TRAIL TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE FROM ADAMS AVENUE TO EDINGER AVENUE FOR CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
What: Orange County Water District (OCWD) is currently constructing a 13-mile pipeline from Fountain Valley to Anaheim along the west side of the Santa Ana River. In addition, construction work and drilling has begun for several new wells to prevent seawater intrusion in Huntington Beach. These construction activities are part of a visionary water purification project, known as the Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System.
In order to complete construction activities, the trail will be temporarily closed along the west side of the Santa Ana River from Adams Avenue to Edinger Avenue to ensure safety to the public who use the trail for recreational purposes. The Garfield Avenue and Adams Avenue northbound access routes to the Santa Ana River trail will also be temporarily closed during this construction period.
When: The trail and access route closures are anticipated to last for approximately one year beginning the week of June 6, 2005.
Where: The west side of the Santa Ana River from Adams Avenue in Huntington Beach to Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana
Why: The trail needs to be temporarily closed so that construction crews can continue work on OCWD’s GWR System pipeline and well construction projects. This innovative project will give Orange County a new, safe and reliable source of water by 2007.

###
The Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System, a new high-tech water purification system, will produce water similar in quality to bottled water. GWR System water will be used to service a larger, expanded seawater barrier and to help drought-proof Orange County's groundwater basin by providing better water reliability and more local control over part of our water future.
Orange County Water District is a special district that was created by the California State Legislature in 1933 to maintain and manage the groundwater basin under northern and central Orange County. OCWD’s groundwater basin supplies 75% of the water needs in Anaheim, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster, and Yorba Linda.
Orange County Sanitation District is the third largest wastewater treatment system west of the Mississippi River, serving 2.2 million residents in northern and central Orange County.
