FOUNTAIN VALLEY RESIDENTS INVITED TO INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON
CONSTRUCTION OF GROUNDWATER REPLENISHMENT SYSTEM

Meeting Scheduled for Wednesday, January 19,
7 - 8:30 p.m.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – As part of an ongoing effort to provide Fountain Valley residents with information on the Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System, officials from Orange County Water District will host a neighborhood presentation on Wednesday, January 19 from 7-8:30 p.m.

The meeting will provide Fountain Valley residents with an overview of the GWR System and why Orange County needs this project as well as give residents an opportunity to ask questions about the progress of construction within the city.

"Meeting with our Fountain Valley neighbors is important, and that's why we conduct these regular neighborhood meetings," said Ron Wildermuth, OCWD communications director. "We hope we'll have a great turnout."

The meeting will take place at Robert Gisler Elementary School at 18720 Las Flores Street in Fountain Valley. It will be held in the school auditorium and refreshments will be served.

The Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System, a new high-tech water purification system, will produce water similar in quality to bottled water.

Once complete, the GWR System will:
* Help with future water reliability in Orange County and throughout Southern California.
* Help provide reliable water during future droughts.
* Save energy by producing very high quality water for one-half the energy that it takes to bring water here from
Northern California.
* Produce such high quality water that it will help "soften" the content of the groundwater basin, which eventually will mean longer appliance life.

###

The Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System, a new high-tech water purification system, will produce water similar in quality to bottled water. GWR System water will be used to service a larger, expanded seawater barrier and to help drought-proof Orange County's groundwater basin by providing better water reliability and more local control over part of our water future.

Orange County Water District is a special district that was created by the California State Legislature in 1933 to maintain and manage the groundwater basin under northern and central Orange County. OCWD’s groundwater basin supplies 75% of the water needs in Anaheim, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster, and Yorba Linda.

Orange County Sanitation District is the third largest wastewater treatment system west of the Mississippi River, serving 2.2 million residents in northern and central Orange County.
