Construction is Complete!

The Orange County Water District (OCWD) and Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) made history on January 10, 2008 when it received approval from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board to inject about half of the purified sewer water from the GWR System into OCWD’s seawater intrusion barrier. January 18, 2008 marked another important milestone as the project received final approval to send the other half of the water to OCWD’s groundwater spreading basins in Anaheim.

If you are interested in touring this remarkable water purification facility, beginning April 4 at 10 a.m. and the first Friday of every month thereafter, the public is invited to tour the GWR System in Fountain Valley. Reservations are required; space is limited. The tour may include climbing stairs, walking and standing for periods up to 45 minutes. For questions or to schedule a tour, call (714) 378-3333. All bodies of water in the United States contain some amount of purified sewer water. The natural hydrologic cycle that produces moisture has not kept pace with water demands in the Western United States for many years. In effect, man is helping Mother Nature's water cycle by making purified water faster and just as safe.
